What Is Relational Psychotherapy?
Sometimes we feel that we may be pushing away people rather than attracting them. This can happen in our relationships with our family members (parents, children, siblings, spouses), friends and peers, and other people in our social circle.  Relational therapy helps us to identify 'how' we are pushing people away and to understand that these behaviours are related to our past experiences.
The goal of Relational Psychotherapy is to develop new ideas and strategies about trust and connectedness and to build a strong relationship with the therapist.  These new ideas and the therapeutic relationship can be used as a model to create healthier, longer-lasting relationships, and to repair ruptured or broken ones. Relational psychotherapy can benefit people who are experiencing that anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, and negative and hopeless thoughts are negatively affecting their relationships with others.
The goal of Relational Child Psychotherapy is to bring the relational and developmental points of view together. This approach focuses on child-therapist relationship, as well as parent-therapist relationship.  These provide a model for parent-child relationships that focus on children’s developmental needs. The model empowers parents to understand children’s developmental needs, have realistic expectations from them, and take a more active role in fostering developmentally appropriate interactions with their children. These, in turn, will increase parental sense of competence and efficacy, and increase their emotional availability for their children.
